ABOUT ME & MY WORK
I went to journalism school with the dream to become a photojournalist. Turns out, my camera skills were dull - but my writing was not. So I ran with that - to New York City where I worked under Jason Fine, then editor of Rolling Stone and Men’s Journal. He changed my life by giving me an opportunity. When my extended internship was finished, I asked Jason, “What should I do now?” “Finish your degree,” he said. And so I did.
Continuing with freelance work for the magazine, I went back to school. I was also now a new mother which posed its own challenges. The most daunting challenge was that I, among adjunct professors, had nowhere private to take care of motherly duties while at school - such as pumping milk. I begged my school for a private room to no avail. Finally, under the guidance of my professor and mentor, Lisa A. Phillips, I took to The New York Times in an article about the issue. Within a week, we had a mother’s room. The written word is profound.
Graduating with a degree in journalism and digital media, I discovered content marketing - the privilege to stand behind companies I believe in through writing. I’ve helped sell $15,000 rings, grow companies 3-4x their net worth, conveyed concepts as complicated as blockchain to the average reader, and diversified storytelling in companies. But above any skill set I possess, I treasure most my interpersonal skills - my ability to listen, connect, and then get others interested. After all, a Harvard study concluded that embracing community is the secret to a long, happy life. And every community is made up of told and untold stories.
Let’s tell yours.
